Finland: Aurora Borealis Northern Lights

The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. The lights are seen able the magnetic poles of the northern and southern atmospheres. They are known as "Aurora borealis" in the north an "Aurora australis" in the south.

Italy: Map of Venice

A very kind and generous postcrossing member sent me a bunch of postcards and stamps in an official swap, and this is one of the cards she had sent me.

What's so special about this card is this map of Venice is actually an Braille map. I did not know this special kind of postcard until I received one yesterday. I hope there are more postcards like this so that more people can enjoy postcards like all of us do.

Germany: Cup of Coffee

Even though coffee is not my favorite beverage, my favorite kind of coffee would be latte. Latte is made with espresso and steamed milk. It has a layer of foamed milk approximately half an inch thick on top of the coffee. I personally love the foam because of its soft and fluffiness. Latte art is also a popular coffee art, where the milk is distinguishable from the coffee and creates a pattern such as hearts and flowers.

Japan: Okinawa Perfecture

Few days ago, I got a few postcards as a souvenir from a friend who visited Okinawa.
The postcards were very beautiful, showing the ocean view and sea creatures.

:: Aharen Beach, Okinawa (阿波連ビーチ) ::
Stretching on 800 meters, Aharen Beach is a white curved beach with an impressive coral reef and a high degree of water transparency. It is known as the Mecca of snorkeling and diving among other marine sports.

:: Humpback Whale (ザトウクジラ / 座頭鯨) ::
The humpback whale is a species of baleen whale. Found in oceans and seas around the world, they feed only in summer, in polar waters, and migrate to tropical or subtropical waters to breed and give birth in the winter. Like other large whales, the humpback was a target for the whaling industry. Once hunted to the brink of extinction, its population fell by an estimated 90% before a 1996 moratorium.

:: Kouri Island (古宇利島) ::
Beautiful nature and a crystal-clear ocean remain major features of the island. Kouri Island is small, and its approximately one kilometer in radius, taking only 10 minutes to drive around.

Australia: Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is the iconic image of Sydney and Australia. The bridge is nicknamed "The Coathanger" because of its arch-bacsed design or is simply called "the Bridge" by Sydney residents.

Also a Sydney Harbour Bridge stamp that matches the card :)

Hong Kong: A Tribute to Teachers

Today I am very happy to share with you the new maxicards I bought at the post office that are being published in Hong Kong today (2016/09/06).

This set of maxicards contain 4 messages with stamp values of "Nurture and Growth" ($1.70), "Mentoring and Care" ($2.90), "Potential and Confidence" ($3.7), and "Dedication and Support" ($5.0) respectively. (1 USD is about 7.8 HKD).

The theme of these postcards is "A Tribute to Teacher". To show appreciation for the dedication of the teaching profession, September 10th has been designated as Teachers' Day in Hong Kong. To mark Teachers' Day this year, the stamp issue encourages students to show appreciation to their teachers for their care and guidance.

I hope you liked it :)

Germany: Cat in Snow

What do you think that cat is doing in the snow....?
It seems to me that...it's thinking in its mind...
"What the hell am I doing here in the snow instead of my cozy, warm bed...?"

It also came with a cat stamp :D Cuteness overload

Guernsey: The Union Street Pillar Box

This was my first and only card from Guernsey.

The Guernsey's "Number 1" box in Union Street is the oldest working pillar box in the British Isles. Installed in 1853, the box still stands on its original site, as designed by the novelist Anthony Trollope when he was Great Britain's postal surveyor for the area.

The Union Street box is the only one in the island which is not painted in the Guernsey Post Office's usual Oxford blue. In honor of its status it retains its original maroon livery.

This card has the Guernsey issued Postcrossing stamp :)

Another cute postcard that features a curious cat that apparently hasn't seen tap water.

Also, the new colorful Netherlands Postcrossing stamp that I've seen online numerous times but have never actually received :D
