Chile: Greetings from... Chile

Officially the Republic of Chile, Chile is a South American country occupying a long, narrow strip of land between the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The arid Atacama Desert in northern Chile contains great mineral wealth, principally copper.

Chile is one of the South America's most economically and socially stable nations, with a high-income economy and high living standards. It leads Latin American nations in rankings of human development, income per capita, globalization and economic freedom.

Chile is one of the founding members of the United Nations.

Chile: Salar de Atacama

Salar de Atacama is the largest salt flat in Chile. It is surrounded by mountains, and has no drainage outlets. Large volcanoes dominate the landscape including the Lascar, which is one of the most active volcanoes in Chile.

Although I have not heard of Salar de Atacama prior to receiving this card, I would love to visit a salt flat one day because they are gorgeous after rain and reflects the sky like a huge mirror.

Chile: Flag of Chile

*yay* My first card from Chile :D

The national flag of Chile consists of two unequal horizontal bands of white and red and a blue square the same height as the white band in the canton, which bears a white five-pointed star in the center. The Chilean flag is also known in Spanish as La Estrella Solitaria (The Lone Star).

The Star may represent a guide to progress and honor while other interpretations refer to its reference to an independent state. Blue symbolized the sky and the Pacific Ocean, white was for the snow-covered Andes, and red stood for the blood spilled to achieve independence.
