Hawaii is the 50th and most recent state of the United States of America, receiving statehood in 1959. It is the only U.S. state located in Oceania, and the only state not located in the Americas. The state also does not observe daylight saving time. Hawaii is comprised of eight main islands, and the Island of Hawai'i, which is the largest island in the group, is often called the "Big Island" to avoid confusion with the state.
